The privateers were owners of private ships, authorized by the government to conduct naval warfare. Privatization was not considered piracy, because it took place without government permission. In the 18th century a number of small single-masted ships were armed and used for privateering. Built in the Chesapeake, these ships were fast and maneuverable with a graceful transom and low free-board. They evolved from Bermuda in the 1740s model sloops and was equipped with the sail equipment of high-speed Virginia schooners.
A model of medium complexity, that the advanced beginner and modeler with little experience can make as one of the first sailship models (but not all models). You should only work under the supervision of a more experienced modeler.
