At the beginning of the 17th century the Duchy of Prussia tried to create its own navy. The flagship of this fleet was to become the galleon "Roter Lowe" (Red Lion). The ship was built in 1597 in Holland. The galleon's armament consisted of 12 cannons on the lower deck and 4 cannons, firing stone shells, placed on the upper deck. There were also two retreating cannons in the front and two in the rear, and 4 falconettes in the embrasures, which fired cartouche. In 1601, "Roter Love" was bought by the city authorities of Königsberg, who were appointed by the King of Poland as regents until Duke Albrecht II Friedrich of Prussia came of age. Until 1607, it was based in the port of Pilau and was used as a guard ship. It was commanded by Captain Peter Hinc. During this period, the ship often visited the port of Memel (Klaipėda). In 1608, the "Roter Lowe" sailed to Lisbon with a cargo of forest material, where it was sold together with the goods it brought.
A moderately complex, well-designed and well-detailed model, that can be assembled by advanced beginner modelers under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. Sails and flags are double-sided printed on thin paper.
