"Oriol" (Russian - eagle) - the first Russian sailship, built according to Western European traditions, was a variant of the Dutch pinnace. It was built by order of Aleksei Mikhailovich in the village of Diedinovo, Kolomna county. It was intended for the protection of Russian merchant ships in the Caspian Sea. This ship is considered to be the first Russian sailing warship, built according to the examples of the masters of Western European shipping, although the ship "Frederik" was built as early as 1636. But even though it was built in Russia, it sailed under the flag of Schleswig-Holstein. Forest material was prepared in the Kolomna region, and iron parts, as "the best for shipbuilding", were supplied by factories in Tula and Kashir. The supervision of the construction of the ship was entrusted to nobleman A.L. Ordin - Naschiokin. The master shipbuilder Lamberts Helts was invited from Holland, the Russian shipbuilders were led by the noblemen J. Poluektov and S. Petrov. In January 1668, the hull of the ship was close to completion, and in March, an artist and a woodcarver were already invited to decorate the ship. In May 1668, the ship was lowered into the water, but the finishing works dragged on and it was left in Diedinov for the winter. The construction of "Oriol" cost the Russian treasury 2,221 rubles. In April 1669, the name "Oriol" was given to the ship, the image of the eagle, as the coat of arms of Russia, was embroidered on the ship's flags. The Dutchman David Butler was appointed captain, and the crew consisted only of foreigners. On May 7, the ship raised its sails and set sail on its maiden voyage. It took three and a half months to sail from Diedinovo to Astrakhan. It was believed, that in 1670, when Astrakhan was occupied by Stepan Razin's rebels, "Oriol" was burned. The frigate was indeed captured by the rebels, but judging by the found documents of the Astrakhan administration of 1678, it was never used for its intended purpose, and after lying idle for many years in the Kutum channel, it disintegrated.

A complex, well-detailed and well-designed, colorful sailship model for intermediate to advanced modelers. Sails and flags are double-sided printed on thin paper.
