The heavy frigate "Vappen von Hamburg" was built in Hamburg in 1667-1669 by an unknown Dutch master. The construction of this ship, like other warships, was driven by the need to have escort ships for Hamburg's merchant fleet, which at the time numbered around 200 ships. The naval wars of Holland, England, France and Spain in the 16th-17th centuries due to the dominance of the seas, as well as the number of pirates who had bases in Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli, it was necessary to send merchant ships with military protection. From 1669 to 1683 "Vappen von Hamburg" participates in convoys sent to the west and Spitsbergen. The frigate clashed with the enemy more than ten times, and the battles always ended either with the escape of the enemy or his defeat. The high characteristics of the ship allowed it to easily deal with pirate and privateer ships (mainly light frigates). It is a very famous and popular ship among Germans. The frigate exploded in 1683 October 10 in Cádiz raid during a fire of unknown cause. The famous Admiral Karpfanger and 64 crew members out of a total crew of 220 were killed in it.
A complex, large, but interesting model. Recommended for intermediate to advanced naval enthusiasts. This model features a high level of detail, with the sails and flags printed on both sides. The model has "secondary cladding" details. The model is intended for intermediate to advanced modelers, but it won't be an "easy walk" for them either. The model is rich in details, but the extensive and informative graphic instructions will greatly help in the process of assembling the model.
