The English 54-gun class IV rank ship "Mordaunt" was launched in 1681 at the Royal Dockyard in Deptford, which is located near London. This ship was commissioned by a group of shipowners, led by Lord Mordaunt, later Earl of Peterborough. He later became the sole owner of the ship, as other members of the group withdrew from it. Having such a powerful armed ship was motivated by the desire to abandon the military escort accompanying merchant ships. The idea raised some suspicions, with the Spanish envoy saying, that a warship, owned by a private individual, could provoke a military conflict with Spain. As a result, armament and crew restrictions were placed on the ship. Two years later - in 1683 - the ship's armament and crew were even more severely "trimmed", and the ship itself was included in the composition of the Royal Navy, where it served until November 1693. On September 4, 1688, John Tyrrell was appointed as the ship's captain, and on October 4, 1689, he participated in a battle with 12 French warships as part of the English escadre. 1693 "Mordaunt" ran aground off Cuba and was lost.
A very complex and sizeable model of a sailship for intermediate to advanced modelers. Sails and flags are double-sided printed on thin paper.
