"Baikal" was built in 1848 in Helsingfors as a transport ship with the rigging of a brigantine and was intended to deliver cargo to the warehouses of the Russo-American Company located in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The captain appointed captain - lieutenant G. I. Nevelskoj. This appointment helped him fulfill an old idea: to prove, that the mouth of the Amur can be entered directly from the ocean, and that Sakhalin is an island. Funding for the expedition is for one year only. On July 10, 1948, "Baikal" was launched, and on August 21, it set sail on the route Kronstadt - Portsmouth - Rio de Janeiro - Valparaiso - Cape Horn - Honolulu - Petropavlovsk, where the ship docked on May 12, 1849. Although the instructions received from the command ordered Nevelskoi to sail with mission to Kamchatka, he disobeyed them and sailed to the Amur estuary. Thus it was proved, that Sakhalin is an island, and the Amur River is suitable for navigation, and the fact, that there are no Chinese settlements along the Amur River, was proven.

A small model of moderate complexity, that even advanced modellers with little experience can easily glue together under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. Most of the details, which must be originally painted on both sides, are printed with double-sided printing. Also double-sided printing, only on thin paper, printed sails and flags. The copper coating on the bottom is printed in "metallic" copper paint.
