In 1851, a sailing yacht regatta was held on the occasion of the first industrial exhibition in London. She had to show the power of the British Empire, as in addition to 16 English yachts, one American schooner, “America”, took part in the race around the British Isle of Wight. The Americans designed and built a whole new ship for this race. New York's “William H. Brown Shipyard” has received a special order from the newly established commander of the “New York Yacht Club” to build a yacht for $ 30,000. The yachts were subject to very high standards in terms of speed and comfort. And was given only 9 months to design, build, test and deliver to the race site. On May 3, 1851, the yacht was launched, “America” broke the record for a daily sail of 284 nautical miles, and the average speed was 11.8 knots. The “100-Guinea Cup”, set up by Queen Victoria, was won by the Americans, who overtook the second-place yacht by 7.5 nautical miles on the 53-mile distance. Since then, this cup has been the most sought-after prize in the world of sailors - the "American Cup". The Americans defended this prize for a long time and successfully - for 132 years and only in 1983 it was won by the Australians.
A beautiful, well-designed, well-detailed model will suit modelers of any experience, just starting, but for them is better to work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and this shouldn’t be one of the first more complex models.
