Submarine mini-aircraft carriers I - 400 were the largest submarines of World War II. Their underwater displacement reached that of light cruisers of the time - over 6,500 tons. These cruisers were designed to attack coastal facilities with seaplane-borne weapons. Only two ships of this type were used in combat operations: I-400 and I-401, and I-402, although completed by the end of the war, did not have time to participate in combat operations. The remaining fifteen units were either not completed at the time of Japan's surrender, and some had not even begun construction. After Japan's surrender, all three completed ships were taken over by the US, but after careful research, they were sunk by torpedoes in May and June 1946 to prevent Soviet specialists from inspecting them, which they desperately wanted.
The model is quite complex due to its shapes and rich detailing, the fully equipped airplane hangar and the airplanes themselves, so it is only recommended for intermediate and advanced modelers.
