"ShCh-402" is the representative of the most numerous medium submarines of the X series "ShCh" (Щука - "Pike") type. They have improved underwater smoothness and increased speed on the surface. Built in Leningrad, after crossing the White-Baltic Sea Canal, in 1937, included in the 2nd Submarine Division of the Northern Fleet. During the Great Patriotic War, it carried out 16 combat campaigns, the ship was commanded by the 3rd rank captain N.G. Stolbov, later - 3rd rank captain A. M. Kautskij. In 1942, the ship was awarded the Order of the Red War Banner, in 1943 provided by guard ship. Missing during a combat campaign, presumed killed in an enemy minefield off the coast of Norway in 1944. at the end of September.
