Since 1976 the United States has built 18 “Ohio”-class submarines, which are still the only units of the US Navy, capable of carrying ballistic missiles. They are armed with 24 “Trident” II D-5 missiles with a range of 11 thousand km and carries 8 warheads, ranging from 100 to 475 kilotons each. At the beginning of the 21st century, four ships of this type were converted to the SSCN standard, replacing 24 “Trident” with 154 “Tomahawk” tactical missiles. Additionally, ships of this type are armed with 4,533 mm caliber torpedo tubes. These ships, like their counterparts in the Russian fleet (“Delta”, “Boreus” and “Typhoon” types) and Great Britain (“Vanguard” class), belong to the class of large submarines, which are comparable in size to battleships of the I World War. They reach or exceed 170 meters in length and have an underwater water capacity of 18,700 tons. The 60 MW reactor allows the ships to develop a maximum speed of 25 knots and dive to a depth of 250 m. Despite the fact, that some “Ohio”-class ships are already in service for over 40 years, they are scheduled to be replaced by “Columbia”-class ships only after a dozen years. From this publication You can make a model of the “Ohio”-class submarine “Alabama” (SSBN-731), which entered service in 1985. To this day it serves in the Pacific Fleet, registered at the military port of Bangor, Washington.

A medium-complexity, large, well-detailed and well-designed model for modelers of all experience. Even a modeler with little experience, working under the supervision of a more experienced colleague, will perfectly stick this model without much trouble. Excellent graphic instruction. It is possible to make a model with open missile shafts and missiles in them. Also, the cockpit trim is given to several “Ohio”-type ships - so it's possible to make not only the “Alabama” model, but also the USS “H. M. Jackson”, USS “Georgia”, USS “Florida”, USS “Michigan”, USS “Nevada”, USS “Pennsylvania”, USS “Tennessee”, USS “Ohio” to name, but only one model.
