A heavy weapon was very common in ancient Roman legions. They are thrown by arrows, stones or metal balls. This model is only a general typical picture and ballistae were not invented by the Romans. They looked down on the Syrians, who had already used them 500 years before our era. The typical distance, at which these weapons were fired, was 50-100 meters, although a shot of 630 m is recorded in the yearbooks. They were displaced around the 4th century by smaller, but more efficient onagers.

A straightforward model for modelers of any experience, just starting out would be better off working under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. It is also possible to make a relatively "working" model.
