Au Sable Lighthouse was built in 1874 on Au Sable Point Reef on Lake Superior's "Wreck Coast." Au Sable Point Reef is a shallow ridge of sandstone, that is only 6 feet (1.8 meters) deep and extends for nearly 1 mile. The coastline of this area is one of the most beautiful in North America, but since the 1800s it has been considered one of the deadliest due to severe storms and thick fog. The lighthouse is a white brick conical tower with a black lantern room. Next to the lighthouse stands the red brick keeper's house. The lighthouse was automated in 1958. The caretaker's house has been restored and is open to the public. In summer, the tower is open to the public. The complex is maintained by the National Park Service and the automated beacon is operated by the US Coast Guard.
A simple, well-designed, sufficiently detailed model of a beautiful lighthouse for modelers of all experience. Advanced beginners and modelers with little experience are advised to work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. Everything can be overcome and done, if you take your time, work patiently, carefully and precisely. Some details are double-sided printing.
