It is said to be one of the few surviving timber-framed lighthouses left on Lake Superior. The complex consists of a square tower rising from the connected lighthouse keeper's house, a brick fog signal building, a frame barn, the complex also includes a brick oil warehouse, a boat house, two outbuildings and a pier. The light source was automated in 1947 and later transferred to the National Park Service as part of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. It is the property of the Apostole Island Lighthouses and was built in 1977, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also listed on the Library of Congress List of Historic American Buildings under code WI-312. The original Fresnel lens is on display at the Madeline Island History Museum. The old battery powered system in the fog signal building was replaced with solar powered 300 mm "Tideland" Signal acrylic panels on poles, the electricity generated is used to light the island to this day. A lighthouse is a working navigation tool. The light will flash every 2.5 seconds.
A simple, well-designed, sufficiently detailed model of a beautiful lighthouse for modelers of all experience. Advanced beginners and modelers with little experience are advised to work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. Everything can be overcome and done, if you take your time, work patiently, carefully and precisely.
