Tsybin NM-1 – the Soviet experimental aircraft

In the autumnl of 1956 EKB - 256 started work on the plane, designated NM-1. Testing began on October 1 and the first flight was made on April 7, 1959. It flew 32 times in total. The flights confirmed the excellent characteristics of the plane. Mostly flown at minimum speeds. The collected information was to be used in the construction of the reconnaissance plane RSR, the first prototype of which was already being assembled. NM - 1 was equipped with two AM - 5 jet engines. The aircraft took off with a landing gear consisting of two wheels mounted on the undercarriage, which was dropped after takeoff. The landing was on the undercarriages: one - the main one - under the fuselage, two undercarriages - under the engines and the rear wheel. The RSR and NM-1 projects were stopped by Khrushchev in favor of ballistic missiles.

A model of moderate complexity, but not so complex, that even a beginner modeler with little experience would not be able to glue it together under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. The publication is complete with a piece of transparent plastic for “glazing” the cabin and 4 A4 format 1 mm thick cardboard sheets for gluing the frame details.
