MiG-15bis (in the NATO code system: "Fagot") - a Soviet fighter, designed by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Constructor Bureau, an improved version of the MiG-15. In 1949 state tests of the new engine VK-1 were carried out at the beginning. It was an improved version of the RD-45F engine. While maintaining the same dimensions and weight, it developed 20% more thrust, which made it possible to significantly improve the flight characteristics of airplanes, that were previously equipped with RD-45F engines. In the 1949 May 14 of the Council of Ministers of the USSR decision and on May 20 of the same year order of the Ministry of Aviation Industry no. 386 TCB-155 was ordered to modernize the MiG-15 by installing the new engine. In 1950 June 10 a decision was made to start serial production of the aircraft and designate them MiG-15bis. The MiG-15 family of aircraft were armed the Air Force, Anti-Aircraft Defense and Naval Aviation Regiments of the USSR. It was first used in combat conditions in 1950 spring in China, defending the city of Shanghai from Kuomintang air raids. It was widely used between 1950 and 1953. During the Korean War, where it earned the right to be called one of the best fighters of the early 1950s. During 3 years of combat operations in the skies over Korea, Soviet pilots from the 64th Fighter Corps participated in 1,872 air battles, during which they managed to shoot down 1,106 American aircraft, including about 650 "Sabers". At the same time, MiG losses amounted to only 335 aircraft.
