The history of the pilot-named “Tommy” plane was long and various. Manufactured by “Thomas - Morse Corporation” in Ithaca, New York. The firm was founded in 1910 by two young English emigrants. The first aircraft, marked S4B, was delivered in the summer of 1917 and 100 units were ordered. The popularity of the modified version S4C was even greater - 497 aircraft were produced for the US Army. They were used in virtually all U.S. Army pilot schools to train pilots and master higher pilot figures. During the war, an armed version, was used as a fighter jet in the U.S. Army. After the war, the “Scouts” returned to civilian service to be sold to civilian flying schools. In total, over 600 aircraft of this type were produced.
A straightforward model for modelers of any experience, just starting out would be better off working under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and it shouldn’t be the first few models you stick to.
