The “Il-2” prototype appeared in early 1939 and was designated “CKB-55” (two-seater), and later “CKB-57” (single). The aircraft was intended for the destruction of fortifications and combat vehicles on the battlefield. Flight tests continued from October 1940 to March 1941, after which the aircraft was put into serial production as the “Il-2”. Ilyushin initially pressed for the production of a two-seater version, but the party and government representatives decided, that a single-seater version would be produced, but the heavy losses of strike aircraft in collisions with enemy fighters forced a return to the production of a two-seater version. The single-seater version was produced until the middle of 1942, later a two-seater version with several modifications was produced. In total, more than 36 thousand of the Il-2 aircraft all versions were produced. Il-2 aircraft became one of the most widely used aircraft of the period.
A complex model, painted in beautiful camouflage, intended for intermediate and advanced modelers, represents the aircraft, piloted by Captain A. N. Yefimov - the commander of the 2nd squadron of the 198th Assault Aviation Regiment in East Prussia and Kujawy in the winter of 1944/45.
