PZL SM-2 is a Polish multi-purpose helicopter of classic design with main and tail rotors. The structure is metal, built during the Cold War. The prototype took off for the first time in 1959 and serial production began a year later. About 90 machines were produced. The propellers were turned by the Lit-3 piston engine, which developed 575 h. p. power. No weapons were mounted on the helicopter. PZL SM-2 was built at the PZL-Švidnik aviation factory, the main designer was Jerzy Tyrcha. The new helicopter appeared as a further development of the Mi-1 (produced in Poland under a license, granted by the USSR, as the SM-1). The most important changes were the increase in the hull, which resulted in an increase in its capacity, which allowed the installation of a more powerful engine "Lit - 3". As a result, the weight of the transported cargo increased, but the flight characteristics deteriorated. A major shortcoming of the SM-2 was an incorrectly designed air receiver. "SM - 2" served in the Polish People's Army, civil sanitary service. A small amount was exported to Czechoslovakia. The last copies were withdrawn from service in 1979, when new Soviet-made Mi-2 helicopters were delivered to Poland.

An uncomplicated, but well detailed and designed model of a helicopter, suitable for almost any experience modeler, but we do not recommend it for a beginner modeler, and for modelers with little experience - it should be built under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and it should not be one of the first, more complex models You build. It is also possible to simplify Your work by not making transparent cabin glasses - the need to make cabin equipment will be left out. You can make one of three helicopter models: Polish PR Air Force, Polish Sanitary Service, Czechoslovak AF. Where necessary, details are double-side printed.
