Polyommatus icarus is a diurnal moth from the Lycaenidae family. The family name is Latin for "many-eyed", because of the dark spots on the underside of the wings, and the species name is derived from the Greek mythological hero Icarus. Wing’s length - 28-32 mm. Clearly pronounced sexual dimorphism. The upper wings of males are blue (sometimes with a purple tinge) with a narrow black border on the outer edge of the wings. The wings of the female are dark brown, often heavily barred with blue, with a row of orange spots on the outer edge of the hindwing, and sometimes the forewing also has such spots. The ground blue tit (Polyommatus thersites) differs from the similar blue tit (Polyommatus thersites) by having two additional spots on the basal part of the lower part of the forewing. A common species that lives almost throughout the Palearctic. It is found from North Africa in the south to the North Cape in the north and from the Canary Islands in the west to the Pacific coast in the east (including Lithuania). Lives in various types of open environment: field edges, meadows, clearings, fallows, ruderal areas, wherever there are food plants.
