Stinging nettle (Aglais urticae) is a moth of the Nymphalidae family. Size 40-50 mm. The upper side of the wings is brick-colored. Forewings with 3 quadrangular black spots near anterior margin and with black on outer margin. The base of the hind wings and the marginal band are black. A common species in Lithuania. Lives in homesteads, woodlands, dry meadows, rivers, where many nettles grow. One generation develops per year. Adults overwinter. Flies in June - September, hibernates in March - May. Caterpillars with yellow lateral lines; lives on nettles. The pupa has lumps on the back and golden spots on the chest.
