Machaon (Papilio machaon) is a diurnal moth of the Papilionidae family. The wings are yellow, the veins are black. Basal part of forewings black; front with 3 black angular spots and with a black band on the outer edge. Hindwings with a broad black band near the outer margin; the middle of the band is dark blue. In addition, there is a horn-shaped projection on the trailing edge of the wing. Caterpillars are found on various umbelliferous plants: common carrots, common gorse, dill, cumin, small gorse, marsh salvia, sometimes found on rue. They also pupate on food plants. The species is listed in the Lithuanian Red Book.
