The 2S9 “Nona” self-propelled artillery facility was built at the Central Precision Mechanical Engineering Research Institute and the design offices of the Lenin Machine-Building Plant in Perm. The cannon is built based on the BTR-D floating transport armor. 2S9 is designed to destroy enemy life force, artillery and mortar batteries, armored vehicles, other purposes. Has been supplied to the USSR (later Russian) Airborne Forces since 1981. Used in the war in Afghanistan, January 13, 1991 in the hijacking of the Lithuanian television tower in Vilnius.
