The T-90 is a third-generation Russian main battle tank, manufactured in Russia. The tank is a modernization of the T-72 (at the beginning of the design it was called T-72BU, later renamed T-90). The T-90 is equipped with a 125 mm 2A46 smooth-bore cannon, a 1G46 gunner's sight, a new engine and thermal sights. Standard protections include a mix of steel, composite armor and "Kontakt-5" anti-aircraft missiles, a laser target warning receiver, "Nakidka" camouflage and "Schtora" infrared PTVR suppression system. The EMT-7 electromagnetic pulse generator was used for testing, but is not used in current T-90 tanks. In 1992 the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has announced, that it is no longer possible to simultaneously produce two models of main battle tanks. Since both the "quality" of the T-80 and the "quantity" of the cheaper T-72B were produced at two different factories and each factory was vital to the economy of its city, the authorities reduced orders for both. The Omsk factory produced five T-80Us, and the Nizhny Tagil factory produced fifteen T-72, but both factories produced more combat vehicles in the hope of winning large export orders. The Nizhny Tagil plant produced several T-72BMs, retrofitting T-72Bs with third-generation composite armor, called "Kontakt-5", which was already used on T-80U tanks. To further increase the T-90's exports and chances of it becoming the only main tank, produced by Russia, the T-80U's superior fire control system was also fitted to the new T-72BU. The T-90 was developed at the Kartsevo-Venediktov design bureau at the "Uralvagonzavod" plant in Nizhny Tagil. This model uses the T-72BM design, using modifications from the operational experience of the T-80 series of tanks. The T-90 with a 630 kW engine was launched in 1993. It is fitted with composite armor "Kontakt-5" for the hull and turret. The design of the T-90 uses all the systems of the T-72, but they are modernized, including the gun. The T-90 is protected by three layers of armor: the first layer is composite armor on the turret, the second layer is "Kontakt-5" and the third is the "Schtora" protective system. The first T-90 tanks were used in the Dagestan operation in 1999.

A complex, well-designed and richly detailed frame-less tank model for experienced modelers only. The model has a full reproduction of the combat, engine compartment, turret detailing, perfectly restored chassis, suspension, tracks, exterior detailing. The model is painted in solid khaki camouflage and recreates a newly produced vehicle for the Russian Armed Forces without any identification markings. The model is very complex and intended for experienced modelers.
