M1918 „Ford 3-Ton“ - the American light tank

In 1918 in the spring work began on a cheaper alternative to the Renault FT. The "Tri-ton" Light Tank was constructed, using a tracked chassis, powered by twin engines from a standard Ford Model T car, through a gearbox also used in the same car. The thin layer of armor had to be compensated by armor formed with various slopes. The gunner, sitting next to the driver, was supposed to have an M-1917 machine gun and a belt of up to 550 rounds. It is planned to produce 15,000 units of these light tanks, but after the production of 15 units, one was sent to France. The light tank corps of the US Expeditionary Force in Europe did not like the capabilities of this tank. The project was stopped at the mark of 15 produced tanks.
