The self-propelled artillery unit SU-122 was constructed in November 1942 at the design office of the Ural Heavy Machinery Plant (UZTM), led by engineer L. Gorlicki. A test example of the device (factory designation U-35) was produced on November 30, 1942. After the factory tests, in the first half of December, state tests took place at the Gorochovec training ground and on December 5, 1942 the S-PAU was accepted into the arsenal. Serial production of the machine began in December 1942 and was completed in August 1943. A total of 638 self-propelled units of this brand were produced. It was built on the basis of the medium tank T-34 and belonged to the type of fully armored fighting vehicles. It was intended for the destruction of enemy fortifications, fire points, tanks and combat vehicles. The crew consisted of 5 people. The device is equipped with a 122 mm caliber M-30 divisional howitzer of the 1938 model with a piston lock and a 22.7 caliber barrel. The range of direct fire was 3,600 m, the maximum range was 8,000 m. The combat set consisted of 40 anti-tank and fragmentation - fugitive projectiles, rapid fire - 2 shots per minute. However, this device was not very suitable for the fight against enemy tanks due to the low initial speed of the projectile and its low flight path.

A complex, well-designed and well-detailed model for intermediate to advanced modelers. However, working under the supervision of a more experienced modeler, this model will be excellently assembled by both the advanced beginner and the less experienced modeler. The model without internal equipment reproduces the S-PAU, used by the USSR Army on the battlefields of World War II.
