The production of T-70 tanks in the USSR war industry began in March 1942 and ended in October 1943. This combat vehicle is built on the basis of the T-60 tank. Separate reconnaissance battalions were armed with the T-70, and at the end of the war they were assigned the task of guarding the headquarters. Later, they were gradually withdrawn from the battlefields, considering the changed conditions of the war. A total of 8,226 T-70 units were produced. From the middle of 1943, the 1st Polish tank regiment was formed in Sielcy near Oka with these tanks. The first tanks, that the USSR military command handed over to the Poles at the Sielcy military camp, were produced at the Gorky factory. They took part in the battles near Lenino and Studzianki. But mostly they are used for communication support tasks, bringing ammunition and other means to the deployment locations of very scattered T-34 tanks. Sometimes, while performing these tasks, it was necessary to participate in real clashes with the enemy. T-70s were used even after the end of the war - the Poles used them in 1946-1947 in the battles against the Ukrainian Rebel Army in south-eastern Poland.
