„SU-100“ – the self-propelled artilery unit (SPAU)

The first Soviet self-propelled guns at the beginning of World War II were built very quickly, because they were built on already produced and proven tank chassis. In 1942 the medium self-propelled artillery unit "SU-122", mounted on the chassis of the T-34 tank, was selected for serial production from several projects. But it soon became clear, that the 122 mm caliber howitzer, installed in this device, is too weak. A new 85 mm D-5S cannon was constructed, converted from an anti-aircraft cannon of the 1939 model. The new anti-tank gun could be used as an assault gun or tank destroyer. These SPAU were originally designated "SU-85" and were constructed in the constructor office of the “Uralmash” plant in 1943. The main task of the new machines became the destruction of the latest German tanks "Panther" and "Tiger". These enemy tanks were faster, better armed and armored, than their predecessors. Production of the “SU-85” began at the end of 1943. In July 1944 SPAU "SU-100" with 100 mm caliber cannon D-10S was designed and started production. A total of about 4,500 units were produced. In addition to the USSR, these SPAUs were used in the armament of their armies by the Warsaw Pact states, Cuba and a number of Arab states.

Fairly simple in form, but well designed and richly detailed, a model without interior fittings, with a well-restored chassis and exterior detailing, for intermediate to advanced modelers. However, when working under the supervision of a more experienced modeler, this model of relatively simple shapes will stick together perfectly even for a less experienced modeler.
