Design work on the Type 2 “Ka-Mi” began in 1928, when the Japanese army tried to convert the light tank Type 95 into a “Kyu-Go” amphibian tank with pontoons, attached to it. The Army has been working on this project for almost 12 years with almost no results. In 1940, the Japanese navy took over the project, and two years later the “Ka-Mi” was produced. In 1942, the tank was handed over to the Navy for use on Pacific islands without ports for army and special purpose units. Only 184 units were produced, but the “Ka-Mi” was the most widely used Japanese amphibian tank during World War II.
The model was painted with the 1944 camouflage of the Special Navy Landing Forces, and it is this one, marked 101 and the crescent, that was taken over by the Americans during, the battles in Quayalein Atoll. Medium complexity model for moderately experienced and experienced modelers. Can be done with or without pontoons.
