“AT-42” - the USSR artillery tractor

In addition to working in the direction of strengthening the armor of “T – 34” tanks, a heavy artillery tractor “AT-42” was designed and manufactured on the base of this tank at the Kharkov Tractor Plant 183 in 1940. Many of the assemblies and elements used in the 1940 model “T - 34/76” tanks were used in its product. This tractor, weighing 17 tons, is powered by 500 h. p. powered diesel engine, was able to travel at a maximum speed of 33 km / h and tow a trailer, weighing 15 tons with a load or artillery cannon to that weight. However, due to structural defects, it was not mass-produced and was abandoned altogether due to the war. It is not until 1944 that the project returns, but a new, more advanced “AT-45” tractor is built on it base.

Although a lot of details, the shape of the model is simple, and the chassis of the “T – 34” tank is relatively simple, so this model should not be a problem for those, who have already assembled several more complicated models.
