In 1932 the company "Demag" AG from Wetter in the Ruhr region, anticipating the need for light artillery tractors, started designing such a machine. According to the requirements, the tractor had to transport service personnel and tow anti-tank 37 and 50 mm, anti-aircraft 20 mm and infantry 75 and 150 mm caliber cannons. The tractor prototype D II 1, designed according to these requirements, was ready for testing at the beginning of 1934. Like the following prototype, it was equipped with a gasoline “BMW 315” 28 h. p. power engine. The third prototype was with the “BMW 319” 42 h. g. power an in-line gasoline engine, but this prototype also lacked power. The fourth prototype D II 4 already had the “Maybach HL 38 TRKM” engine and became the model for the pre-production series tractors, which began production in 1937. In 1939, based on the operational experience of prototypes and pre-production series machines, the final version of the tractor was constructed, marked "Demag" D7 in the factory, and Sd. Kfz. 10 in the army. This version began to be serially produced in 1939 and was produced until 1945. These tractors were manufactured by the companies "Demag" AG, "Adler", "Bussing-NAG", "MWC", "Saur" in Germany, after the French occupation by the factories of the companies "Lorraine", "Panhard" and "Simca". In total about 17,000 tractors of this brand were produced.

The model project provides several options for model production, suitable for modelers of different experience, so it is recommended to immediately decide, which version you will glue. Due to the large number of small details and complex shapes, as well, as the complex assembly of some nodes, the model is classified as complex. The most complex, as in other models of German military semi-tracked equipment, is the chassis and tracks. The model has a fully restored engine and combat compartment, chassis, body, external details, even crew equipment. If the engine can't be built, then we won't avoid the equipment of the combat compartment - it's open. It is true, that the model can be made both with the awning down and with the awning extended, but even the extended awning will not help to simplify the model. Sd. Kfz. 10 model can be completed with the PaK 38 anti-tank gun model, published by “GPM” publishing house in issue 617.
