The development of the all-terrain truck KrAZ-260 began in the 1960s in the design bureau of the Kremenchug Automobile Plant under the leadership of chief designer V.V. Tabolin, based on the French "Berliet GBC 8KT" military truck. KrAZ-260 was a joint creation of the Kremenchug Automobile Plant, NAMI and the Moscow Higher Technical School named after N. E. Bauman. The first test series of KrAZ-260 was produced in 1979. The car was thoroughly tested at NII-21 in Bronitsa. Serial production was delayed, because the factory lacked the capacity to produce all-metal cabs. Serial production began in 1981 (KrAZ-260 was supposed to replace the KrAZ-255B) and was carried out in parallel with the KrAZ-255B1. In the same 1981 the Kherson PTO shaft plant started producing KrAZ-260 shafts. In 1983, December 2 the Kremenchug Automobile Plant has officially announced the transition of the plant to the production of the KrAZ-260. The production plans provided for the gradual discontinuation of the production of old models and the transition to the production of KrAZ-250 and KrAZ-260 in the second half of the 1980s (in 1987, the production volume of KrAZ-250 and KrAZ-260 was planned - in 1987 it should reach 30%, in 1988 - 53%, in 1989 - 100%). In 1989, at the visiting meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Automobile and Agricultural Engineering of the USSR, the question of the creation and absorption of the production of new trucks by the automobile manufacturing enterprises of the USSR was raised. When considering the question, it was established that "association "AvtoKrAZ" until 1990 will not carry out the planned transition to the production of KrAZ-250 and KrAZ-260 vehicles", after which a program of necessary measures was prepared to accelerate the production of these cars. The final transition was approved in 1990. Production of the KrAZ-260 continued until 1994, with a total of 15,279 units produced, after which it was replaced on the assembly line by the more advanced KrAZ-6322.

A large, complex, well designed and richly detailed model for intermediate to advanced modelers. Everything possible is detailed in the model - cabin interior, chassis, transmission, engine compartment, cargo platform, exterior details... Not a model, but a dream come true. Where necessary, double-sided printing is used, there is a color reserve. The graphic instruction is exemplary, the text is large, but not detailed, in Russian, English, German and Polish.
