The design work for the heavy-duty truck at the Construction Bureau of the Warsaw Automotive Industry began in 1952. The first prototype was built in 1955 and received the designation A80. The car is equipped with 140 h. p. the S-56 engine, built in 1954, and a 5-speed manual transmission. The first test series of these trucks was made in 1959-1960 and is called “Žubr” (“Bison”). Later, before making the larger series, some changes were made - improved engine performance, and reduced the car’s own weight, compared to previous ones. After all the changes, serial production of the “Žubr” A80 with the new S-560 engine began in 1962. In 1963, 702 units were produced at the Jelcz Automobile Factory and the truck was further improved. But the “Žubr” A80 had many drawbacks, the most important of which were the frequently broken engines and the weak rear axle. As a result, they have been in operation for quite some time.
Medium-complex, well-designed model without engine and cargo compartment equipment. Cab equipment is also out of maximum. Therefore, it is also suitable for advanced novice modelers, but it is better for them to assemble this model under the supervision of a more experienced colleague.
