Prague Castle (czech. Pražský hrad) is a castle in the Czech Republic, Prague, located on the highest hill of the city, on the left bank of the Vltava. The surroundings of Prague Castle are called Hradčany. Prague Castle was founded in the 9th century Duke Bourzhivoy. The history of Prague began with her. The castle was the most important residence of the Habsburgs. The courtyards date from 1753 to 1775, when the entire space was rebuilt in the late Baroque and Neoclassical styles. In 1918 Prague Castle became the residence of the President of Czechoslovakia. The current seat of the President of the Czech Republic is located here. The castle was built in a variety of architectural styles and spread more horizontally, than vertically. The main object of the castle is St. Vito Cathedral (XIV century), decorated with chimeras. St. Vito Cathedral was started to be built in 1344. Holy relics, many royal tombstones, Bohemian crown jewels are kept in the cathedral chapel. In the St. Wenceslas Chapel contains the tomb of Wenceslas. Prague Castle was a meeting place for Czech leaders, kings, Holy Roman Emperors and Czechoslovakian presidents. It is the largest ancient castle in the world, built in the 9th century. Its length is 570 m, width 130 m. The Golden Street next to the castle is one of the oldest and most beautiful streets in Prague with small, multi-colored houses where the castle's archers and goldsmiths lived, from which the street got its name. Now there are souvenir shops in the street huts.
