Pernstejn Castle (Czech Pernštejn), also known as the "Marble Castle", is the seat of origin of the Czech-Moravian aristocratic Pernštejn family, located 40 km northwest of the city of Brno in Moravia. This castle was probably built in the middle of the 13th century in the Gothic style. The Pernštejn family of Moravian landowners, first mentioned in written sources in 1285, was permanently located there. The coat of arms of the Pernsteins - a black bison's head with a golden nose ring - is mounted above the main entrance to the castle palace. In the 15th century the castle was strengthened with additional defensive systems. A powerful Late Gothic fortification with new towers, walls and bastions emerged. During the reign of John IV the Rich, the castle was rebuilt into a residence in the Renaissance style. Due to the accumulated debts, in 1596, Jan V sold the castle. In the course of the following centuries, the new owners made minor alterations to the castle, but the general appearance of the castle has remained almost the same, as it was in the 16th century. On April 15, 2005 part of the attics burned down during a big fire. Many films were filmed in the castle, the most famous of which is "Nosferatu - Ghost of the Night". In 1975 the castle was used for the filming of the fairy tale "Princess on the Pea", directed by Soviet director Boris Rytsarev, and the French trilogy "Aliens".
A rather complex, large and beautiful castle model, that is not recommended for the modelers with a little experience. And beginners with little experience and advanced beginers can glue this castle together, if they work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague.
