The Gothic Karlstein Castle was built in the 14th century in the middle as the summer residence of the rulers. Another important function of it was the storage of royal jewels and relics. The founder of the castle, Charles IV, loved to hunt, so the castle built surrounded by hills and forests perfectly satisfied his need as well. Built high on a hill, the castle looks impregnable from the outside. And only twice was it seriously attacked. In 1442 Karlstein Castle withstood the Hussite siege and artillery for 7 months. The second time the castle was badly damaged during the attack of the Swedes. The most important value of the castle is the St. Cross chapel, richly decorated with semi-precious stones, paintings. According to the guide, unique in the whole world. It is said, that even Charles IV himself would take off his shoes and take off his crown, when he came here. The castle exhibits a number of medieval furniture and household items, as well as paintings from that era. As you walk from one area of the castle to another, the guide dutifully unlocks and re-locks the massive castle doors after letting visitors in. This makes the castle even more mysterious. After all, You never know, who is hiding behind the other door. Charles IV's throne stands in one of the castle's halls. It is said, that the ruler was an excellent psychologist, so it is no coincidence, that his throne was built in such a way, that the king's face was always in the shadows during the audience. In this way, the ruler could carefully inspect the visitors, who came to him without being disturbed and use all his negotiating advantages.
A medium-complexity, well-detailed model of an architectural monument, suitable for a modeler of almost any experience, but for beginners it is better to stick it under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and not as one of the first more complex models
