Full of St. Vitus Cathedral name is Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert. Until 1997 the cathedral was dedicated only to St. Vitus is still usually called only St. Vitus Cathedral. It is the most important cathedral in the Czech Republic, solemn masses are held there during the most important Christian holidays. However, it is best known as a tourist attraction, as it is an example of magnificent Gothic architecture. St. Vitus Cathedral is part of Prague Castle. It contains the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman emperors. The largest cathedral in the country has many side chapels, frescoes, impressive stained glass windows, created by the unsurpassed artist, the very popular Czech art nouveau master Alfonso Mucha. In the most beautiful of many St. Vitus Cathedral side chapels include St. Wenceslas' grave, about which the popular Christmas carol 'The Good King Wenceslas' is based. The Coronation Palace contains the Czech crown jewels and the Royal Crypt, where most of the Czech kings and queens (Charles IV, Wenceslaus IV, George the Great and Rudolph II) rest. The southern entrance to St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Gate, is decorated with a richly gilded colored mosaic, depicting the Last Judgment and dating back to 1370. It is also one of the artistic treasures, found in the Castle District. St. Vitus Cathedral, You can climb the 96.5 m high tower and see magnificent views of the city and the clockwork. The bell "Zygmunt" of the tower, made in 1549, is the largest bell in the Czech Republic.
