The German oil industrialist Baron Steinhel ordered the construction of a brick castle on the Aurora Rock, in the Ai-Todor Horn, on the site of an old wooden villa, the design of which he ordered from the Russian architect A. Shervud. The castle was built in 1912, and in 1914 it was sold to the Moscow merchant Shalaputin, who opened a restaurant there. During the Soviet years, a tourist base operated for a while in the complex, and later - a library of the sanatorium "Žemchužina" ("Pearl"). In 1927, during the earthquake, a part of the Aurora Rock collapsed, and the observation deck in front of the castle hung over the abyss. Cracks appeared in the walls of the castle; the pointed spires, that ended the wall, fell into the sea. The building was declared an emergency and its visit was prohibited. In 1968 the building was partially strengthened and reconstructed. After the reconstruction, visits to the “Swallow's Nest” have resumed.
An uncomplicated, well-designed model, that reproduces the appearance of the building quite accurately on a scale that, under the supervision of a more experienced colleague, even a novice modeler will glue together without much difficulty.
