One of the first Orthodox defensive shrines, St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk, claims to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a monumental architectural monument of the 11th - 18th centuries, built by Byzantine architects and builders during the five construction seasons from 1044 to 1066, during the reign of Duke Vseslav Briachislavic (Wizard) on the right bank of the West Dvina. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk is characterized by its angled apse, characteristic of wooden shrines. Neither Kiev nor Novgorod disagree with such apse. The grandiose building served as the city’s main public building, where envoys were received, wars were declared, and peace treaties were made. The cathedral is the main tourist attraction in Polotsk, the center of cultural life. Crowds of tourists are gathered here not only by the excellent concert hall with its wonderful organ, but also by the unique museum of the architectural history of the sanctuary.
Uncomplicated, but well-designed and beautiful Sobor model, perfect for any experience modeler. Even an advanced beginner can glue it on their own.
