In 1915, the Italians took over the two-seater Lohner L-40, and less than a month later, production of a copy of it, called the Macchi L.1, began at the “Macchi-Nieuport” plant. Production of the aircraft began in series and new modifications were constructed: L.2, L.3, L.4. In 1917, the plane was recycled from the ground up and became a single-seater. The new aircraft is known as the Macchi M.5, was smaller, than its predecessors and was fitted with a new “Isotta-Fraschini” propulsion engine. This plane was faster, than other seaplanes. More than 240 machines of this type were used to arm the Italian navy.
A moderately well-designed and well-detailed beautiful model for modelers of any experience, only beginners are better to assemble it under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and this should not be one of the first more complex models you make. Antiquarian publication.
