In 1936, in Britain began work to create a fighter to replace the recently armored Hawker “Hurricane” and Vickers Supermarine “Spitfire”. Two companies have already tested engines for such a fighter, which were twice as powerful, as those, used in these fighters. The prototype aircraft with the Rolls Royce “Vulture” engine was given the conditional name "Tornado" and the Napier “Saber” with - the “Typhoon”. Work has been severely slowed by the outbreak of the “Battle for England”, as all capacity has been cast for the production of “Hurricane” and “Spitfire” fighters, as required by the situation on the air front. When things were going well, the prototype of the “Typhoon” aircraft was returned again. The first serial “Typhoon” at first rise into air on May 27, 1941, and was armed with 12 “Browning” 7.7-mm machine guns with a stockpile of 486 rounds each. Subsequent versions are armed with 4Х 20 mm caliber “Hispano” cannons. Used throughout the war, but mostly as attack planes, as they could carry considerable weight in bombs or 8 rockets. A total of 3270 fighters of this type were produced.
A beautiful, well-designed, well-detailed model only for moderately experienced and experienced modelers.
