Renault „R-35“ – the French light tank

These tanks are designed and manufactured by the famous French car manufacturing company “Renault”. In 1935 it was accepted into the arsenal of the French army. These vehicles were indeed well armored, but slow and poorly armed, intended for direct infantry fire support on the battlefield. By agreement between the governments, a certain number of these tanks were purchased for the Polish Army, 53 of which were delivered to their destination in May 1939. But the battalion, formed from them, did not participate in the September 1939 war with Germany and USSR, was interned in Romania. Polish soldiers encountered these tanks for the second time in 1940 in France, where the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade formed from Polish soldiers, had “R-35” tanks in its arsenal. They took part in the battles in the Chaumpaubert and Montbard areas. During the war the “R-35” was in the arsenal of several armies of the world, where due to its relatively poor combat characteristics, it was mostly used for auxiliary purposes.
