Ilyushin “Il-2” – the Soviet/ Polish ground attack aircraft

Ilyushin Il-2 (Russian: “Ил-2”) is a World War II attack aircraft, produced in the Soviet Union. Counting together with its successor, the “Il-10”, a total of 36,163 units were produced. It is believed to be one of the most mass-produced model airplanes in the history of aviation. The idea to create a Soviet armored strike aircraft originated in the 20th century in the early 1940s, when Dmitrij Pavlovich Grigorovich designed “TSh-1” and “TSh-2” armored biplanes. However, the Soviet engines of that time lacked power and could not provide good flight characteristics for heavy aircraft. The “Il-2” was designed in 1938 by Sergei Ilyushin and his team from the Central Design Bureau.

Quite a complex, well-designed model with full cockpit equipment, with RS rockets slung under the wing. However, if we don't do hanging armaments, cabin interior detailing, transparent cabin canopy and make a retracted chassis, and we also have a more experienced colleague nearby, who is always ready to give advice, then this model can be perfectly mastered by modelers with little experience.
