The “Yak-23” was the first jet engine fighter, designed by the Yakovlev KB, which was no longer designed as an adaptation of a piston-engined airplane to a jet engine, but as a real jet. It first flight in 1947, the tests were completed on August 12 of that year, and preparations for mass production began in the first quarter of 1948 at the end of the same year start a serial production. Over the years, several hundred of these planes were built, forming the core of the USSR fighter jets in the early fifties. Supply to Warsaw Pact countries.
