Ansaldo 1-A „Balilla“ – the Italian/ Polish fighter

Ansaldo A.1 "Balilla" is an Italian single-seater fighter, first launched in July 1917, later tested by the Italian Air Force, but returned for recycling due to many shortcomings. Later tested again, but again the pilots had no opinion about this machine. However, the lack of fighters has led to its series production. In July 1918, the first fighters reached the rank of units, but were mostly used for pilot training. Only about 200 units were produced, and they achieved only one air victory. After the war, planes were replaced with better ones, and “Balilla” was sold to foreign countries. Among the lucky (maybe unlucky) buyers were Latvia and Poland, which bought 35 fighters. In 1920, at the Plage i Laszkevicz plant in Lublin, these fighters were manufactured under license and produced a further 57 units.

The model is small, uncomplicated, but requires attention and care, it cannot be rushed. However, working under the supervision of a more experienced colleague, this fighter will stick together perfectly even for a beginner and a modeler with little experience.
