Pe-2 - Soviet dive bomber of World War II. The most massive dive bomber of the USSR. The plane was a monoplane with a twin tail. The successful cockpit design provided the pilot and navigator excellent forward and downward visibility. In order to reduce the speed during a dive, the aircraft was fitted with slatted brake shields, that were flush with the lower surface of the wing. During braking, the shields were lowered almost perpendicular to the air flow. For the first time in USSR in the Pe-2 used electrical control of many mechanisms. This was due to the fact, that the prototype aircraft was designed as a fighter, in which high-altitude hermetic cabins were to be installed, from which it is difficult to mount the moving control rods. Electric remote control has caused numerous cases of spontaneous combustion of aircraft in the air, when sparks, generated during operation of control system, ignited gasoline vapors.
A medium-complexity, well-detailed aircraft model for these times, with no cockpit detailing. Therefore, it is perfect even for beginner modelers, working under the supervision of a more experienced colleague. The model reproduces the appearance of the Pe-2FT bomber, used by the Polish AF in USSR Armed Forces during World War II. After the war these bombers continued to be used by the Polish PR AF for a long time. Antiquarian edition.
