The “Gneisenau” keel was laid at the “Waserwerft” shipyard in Bremen in December 1904, the ship was launched on 14 June 1906 and entered service on 6 March 1908. Together with the joint cruiser “Scharnhorst”, he formed the basis of the East Asian Cruiser Squadron and based in the Chinese port of Cindao. With the outbreak of World War I, squadron ships, led by Admiral Count von Spee, began operating against Allied shipping in the Pacific. On November 1, 1914, the ships triumphed in the Battle of Coronel, sinking two British armored cruisers, HMS “Good Hope” and HMS “Monmouth”. After crossing the Strait of Magellan, the ships reached the Falkland Islands on December 8, 1914, where they discovered a powerful British squadron, that included, among other ships, the liner cruisers HMS “Invincible” and HMS “Inflexible”. Four German cruisers, including “Gneisenau” and “Scharnhorst”, were drowned in the Battle of the Falklands. Most of “Gneisenau's” crew were killed and British survivors pulled a small number of survivors out of the water.

Sophisticated, well-designed and detailed ship model for experienced modelers. The parts to be painted on the other side, are printed on both sides.
