USS „Arizona“ (BB-39) – the American battleship

The USS “Arizona” (BB-39) is America's second and last “Pennsylvania” class battleship. Named in honor of the 48th state's admission to the United States. One of the ships, that transported US President Woodrow Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference. 1919 was sent to Turkey at the outbreak of the Greco-Turkish War to defend U.S. interests. He was transferred to the Pacific Fleet a few years later. 1929 - 1931 regularly participates in military training and exercises. 1933 the ship's crew helped the residents of the state of California, affected by the earthquake. 1940 “Arizona” and the rest of the Pacific fleet were relocated from California to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. 1941 On December 7, during a Japanese attack, several aircraft bombs hit the ship, one of which detonated ammunition stored under the second tower of the main caliber. When they exploded, the ship sank, killing 1,177 crew members. The construction of the “Arizona” cost $ 16 million. The ship was built by a Brooklyn shipbuilding company.
