At the end of the 19th century the Japanese Empire sought to rule Southeast Asia and influence the Pacific Islands. However, such an ambitious goal was hampered by the still weak Navy of the Rising Sun. The biggest problem in building a modern fleet was the lack of shipyards and the lack of experience required to build them. The only way out was to buy ships abroad. And they were sold by Britain. The first armored ships were ordered at the shipyards of this state, and future naval officers also trained there. In 1901, the second pair of battleships, the “Shikishima” and the “Hatsuse”, was delivered to Japan and was one of the most innovative ships in the world at the time. They were successfully used in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, which Russia shamefully defeated. In 1922, the “Shikishima” was reclassified as a training ship. This ship also survived World War II and was dismantled in 1947.

Complicated, beautiful, well-designed and richly detailed ship model for intermediate and experienced modelers. It is possible to make a model of one of the two painting options.
