USS "Baltimore" (CA-68) - f heavy cruiser of the US Navy, built during World War II. The lead ship in a series of 14 ships. The cruiser became the first in a new series of heavy cruisers, designed without taking into account the restrictions of the Washington and London Treaties. The cruiser USS "Baltimore" entered service on April 15, 1943. During the war ship operated as part of the 3rd and 5th fleets, providing fire support for landings on the Pacific islands, escorting aircraft carriers. Withdrawn from the active fleet on May 31, 1956.
