The French destroyer "Albatros" was one of six "Aigle"-class counterminers, built for the French Navy in the interwar period. The keel was laid on January 21, 1929, launched on June 27, 1930, and entered service on December 25, 1931. During the Second World War in 1940 June 14 he took part in Operation "Vado", a raid of French cruisers and destroyers from Toulon to bombard Italian targets at Genoa and Savona. "Mameli's" shore battery hit "Albatros" with one 152 mm (6 in) shell, which penetrated the ship's fire compartment, killing twelve sailors. After France surrendered to Germany, "Albatros" served in the Vichy French Navy. He was in Casablanca, French Morocco, when Allied forces invaded French North Africa during Operation "Torch" in 1942 in November. While resisting the invasion, the ship was seriously damaged in 1942. November 8 in a battle with US Navy forces during the Naval Battle of Casablanca, when she was fired upon by the heavy cruisers USS "Augusta", USS "Wichita", and USS "Tuscaloosa", followed by a bombardment by bombers from the escort aircraft carrier USS "Suwannee". Heavily damaged in order not to sink, he was floated to the shore and "planted on the ground". After the Second World War it was repaired and put back into operation. Deleted from the fleet lists in 1959. September 9.
